NEWS UPDATE FOR JUNE-JULY 2008

Current Progress Update:

  • The Lower arm proto-mold forms are now complete!
  • The Upper arm proto-mold forms are now complete!
  • The Shoulder proto-mold forms are now complete!
  • Rubber Mecha-boot sole mold testing has begun!
  • Website Layout and appearance update still in testing.

What does this mean to you?

The rubber sole mold-testing will ensure that the suits have a professional, durable, long-lasting, and DURABLE impact-cushioning bottom on the suits. The durability of the Mecha Suit boot soles will be 20-50% more durable and long-lived than a typical boot sole for a person, according to MSDS and technical data on the materials we will be using. This will ensure that Mecha-Play's suits will be of the highest quality from the top of the head, to the very sole of the boots.

NEWS UPDATE FOR  MARCH- APRIL  2008

This is a huge (and belated) news update!

Things have been moving forward, but as with all of the great things- there have been setbacks. Things have been *very* busy here at Mecha-Play, Inc., but we will ensure that in the future that the website is *MUCH* more regularly updated. Also coming soon for the website, is a complete overhaul of layout and appearance.

Now onto current updates:

Currently, the upper torso has officially been resized 3 times, and we have finally settled on a 'standard' size, as well as an XXL sizing for those fans of the mecha genre that need more room, or that have incredibly large shoulders.

While this new sizing has caused some setbacks, we feel that it will be for the greater good and allow for a often maligned or forgotten section of the fanbase to also have the opportunity to wear one of our incredible suits when they become available.

The helmet prototype mold-forms have been finalized, as well as: shoulder components; the two variant sized upper body prototype mold-form sets completed; adjustable Waist prototype mold-form sets completed; weapon systems virtual testing and modeling completed; lower body virtual stress testing and modeling completed; suit integrated harness system virtual testing completed; suit maintenance guidelines ver 2.5 completed; suit manual layout ver 1.8 completed; Digital interactive pilot disk ver. A 0.5 completed; Pilot portal undergoing testing and layout phase; Pilot Perks program undergoing finalization stages.

Most of our Internal Components and Finishing component supplies and distributors have been finalized and established: Suit lighting effects supplies and distributors; suit cooling supplies and distributors; plastics distributors; paint and equipment distributors; suit integrated harness system component supply distributors; Integrated suit hydration system distributor; adjustable helmet interior distributor; and printing press distributors; optional vinyl decal distributors.

What does all this mean to you?

Thus far what it means is that our supplies, and distributors have been firmly established- meaning that prices won't fluctuate much if any after launch.

If you caught the bit about the Pilot Portal and Perks programs- while I can't let the cat out of the bag yet fully (and we are seriously behind where we thought we would be), what I will say is this:

"Pilots" - meaning suit purchasers, will be given a unique identifier, as well as access to a host of online and offline features including a choice between several different fitting email addresses, insider information on the next suit launch details, and a host of great offline feature items.

The Pilot portal will be accessable only to shop purchasers, and feature things from multimedia downloads, direct support forums, digital versions of the manuals (in case of lost or stolen copies), skinnable email access (for those who prefer a web-mail), a specialty shop for accessories made specifically for your suit(s), and much, much more.

UPDATE: NOV 15, 2007

Mecha-Play, Inc. is still steadily moving forward. We have completed testing our new modeling and
fabrication tools. Thus far, all systems are go- our equipment is working very well, and aside from
a handful of required edits to our models and data, we are now pleasantly pushing forward.  We have made great strides forward, and as ever is our motto- we are getting closer.

To give you all a little taste of information, here is a quick (albeit tentative) run down on what exactly is being produced for each of our Mecha Costumes that will be available:

  • The costume when on a 5'11" individual, is approximately 8' 4" tall.
  • There are over 140+ components in the suit from head to toe.
  • The current initial release suit will come with 4 weapons, and in 2 paint schemes.
  • There are over 20 LED points on the suit- these are areas where one or several LED's are hooked up.
  • There will be a minimum of 3 areas which will be accessable to the suit wearer for storing items. This does *not* count the backpack.
  • There is an multiple point Cooling system built into the suit.
  • There is an hydration system built into the suit.
  • The suits will ship in 40-60 parts. There will be some "one time" assembly, afterwards, estimated time to get into and out of the suit is roughly 3 minutes.  This should alleviate those horrible moments of fear, frustration, or anxiety of getting into or out of the costume quickly for biological functions.... This End User time reduction contributed greatly to our delay. We want to ensure that our Mecha Costumes are the best possible.
  • Magnetic clamshell design for ultra fast removal of suit.
  • Adjustable Quick - Release strap system for comfort, customization, and ease of use.
  • Easy Cleaning and Maintenance
  • User Friendly Owners Manual, Pilot Training Manual, Informative DVD, numbered certificate of authenticity, plus many bonuses.
  • Upgradeable Weaponry for Lazer-Tag functionality if desired.
  • Light and sound effects for every weapon.
  • Opening Cockpit & several opening panels, showing the "Mecha's Innards".
  •  Functional and fun Backpack :-)
  • Automobile quality paint job, with 2 or more paint schemes available for each suit.
  • Fiberglass reinforced parts for the ultimate in durability.

UPDATE: OCT 19, 2007

Progress Continues

We here at team Mecha-Play are still here- while visible progress is slow to the outside, we are
making strides forward internally.  We are currently testing our updated modeling and fabrication
systems and methods.  Thus far, we are tackling the more complex and difficult sculpts / molds, so as to be able to move rapidly forward once they are completed.

Lessons in Patience

While we understand the desire for pictures and content, we do not wish to show items that are not representative of the final product quality.  Our commitment to you as our future customers is such that we don't wish to show anything less than more finalized representations of our products and features.  Progress is moving along steadily.

UPDATE: AUG 30, 2007:

Gearing up

Mecha-Play is now back in action.  After a storage facility malfunction, and countless other miscellaneous problems- we are back on track.  We are now almost complete equipment wise, our updated modeling and fabrication system is also almost ready for testing.  Current plans call for a fall to winter of 2007 'sneak peak', and a Grand Launch at Sakuracon 2008.

What will be included in the sneak peak?

A handful of suits (Model MP-01) will be available, as well as possible accessories, and helmets.  This will be a 'demo run' of sorts, starting with the 'unveiling' images, and working to videos, excerps from the "Pilot Training Manual", the opening of the complete package contents for items, and Suits, and finally culminating in the early availability to a handful of lucky purchasers of the suits and items.

MAY / JUNE 2007
When problems occur...

We have hit a proverbial speedbump. We were speeding down the design and creation
highway, maybe a tad bit too fast, and without leaving room for any oncoming 'vehicles'.
This last week's been a series of delay-causing situations.

Our plastics order went awry, and we have realized that there is some significant damage
to several molds (never allow plastics c companies to 'as a courtesy' -precut your orders...).
The cumulative effect, is that we'll be forced to push back our release timeline possibly
to as far back as July/August. This is not a set timeframe, and we will indeed strive to
launch as soon as possible.

While this is entirely unfortunate, we have decided to take this decision stance in order to
ensure that things are not rushed, and so that we can deliver the quality products that we
have promised.

* Overall suit completion (in regards to molds) is at roughly 70% now, after damages.
Not including accessories.

*Web site and some further areas are entering an overhaul- any offers
for assistance will be taken seriously, and may be done as a contest situation (ie- site redesign winners may win an excellentcoupon or discounts on suit/accessories upon launch, and may become VIP members).
